Here’s a quick video I took on Monday of a densha otaku, or a train fanatic. I usually don’t get the opportunity to find one in such an empty train station, but I did this time. After capturing him briefly on video, I then did my impression of a densha otaku.
This is the first set of Instagram pictures I’ll be posting. Each week, I’ll post 10 photos, starting with my oldest ones. These ones are from May 24th-25th, 2011. What I’d like you to do is leave a comment stating which photo you like the most and which you like the least, and please give a reason. Thanks!
1. Izumino station from the train (Izumi-ku, Yokohama)
2. Finally sunny again in Yokohama (Nishi-ku, Yokohama)
3. You must run through the exit!
4. Blurry train arrives at the station. (Asahi-ku, Yokohama)
5. Odakyu Shonandai station (Fujisawa, Kanagawa)
6. Food's all gone! (Big Boy)
7. Ecoる Coca-Cola (Fujisawa, Kanagawa)
8. Going up to the train. (Fujisawa, Kanagawa)

Once you’ve decided the best and worst photo, please leave a comment!
Shonandai Station has a very large underground passageway that connects both sides of the station building and 3 train lines. There are many white columns that make this an interesting place for photographs.
Since May 2011, I’ve been using the incredibly popular Instagram app for iPhone, and have taken more than 300 photos since then. The users of Instagram can like and comment on photos as much as they want. Below are my top 5 (actually, top 6) most liked photos.
3rd place (4 way tie)
An incredible sunset near my home.
A black and white photo of the Odakyu Shonandai Station platform.
An unusually empty Sotetsu Line car.
A big X on the platform of Futamatagawa Station. This was also chosen as a top picture for Instagramhub.
Under the Shonan Monorail.
Mt Fuji at sunset through 2 fences, trees and above an industrial building.
I was quite surprised at the most liked photo. It’s a rather grainy picture that I used zoom with. It looks good on the phone, but not so great on a computer. So, what do you think? Which do you like the best?
This picture was taken on the Sotetsu Izumino Line platform at Shonandai Station in Fujisawa while a train was approaching. This station is the only underground station on the Izumino Line. What’s interesting is that the Sotetsu platform is farther underground than the subway station!

Christmas is an interesting thing in Japan. Decorations are everywhere, people buy gifts to give to family, and people eat KFC on Christmas. But it’s not a holiday, it’s just a western import. However, people do get in the Christmas mood. Here are 3 pictures. The first one is in Shonandai Station in Fujisawa. The other 2 are in Landmark Plaza in Minato Mirai. Enjoy!
This Christmas tree is in the middle of Shonandai Station in Fujisawa.
In the very upscale Landmark Plaza shopping centre in Minato Mirai, you can see this crystal Christmas tree.
Here's another view of the Landmark Plaza Christmas tree. I really like this view of the shopping centre.
This is my entry into this week’s “Show Me Japan.”
