Life in Japan: A Return to Japan

Another week, another question. This time, would I return to Japan with my family? Check out my answer.

I Read Encyclopedias for Fun

Last week, we went to a festival and my daughter had the opportunity to meet Ultraman, who is a famous hero on TV.  We had no time, unfortunately, and ever since, she’s been asking when we can return to see Ultraman. That I have no answer to. But I do have an answer to my next question, which was asked by S. R. Carrillo.

Would you ever return? Or plan to – with your daughter?

A return to live or a return to visit? Well, the answer to the first is that we don’t have plans to return to live with our daughter, but I’d be open to it after she’s grown up, most likely. Even so, there’s still a possibility we could return sometime to live in Japan. It’s just too difficult to say for now.

As for visiting, absolutely…

I’m moving! (plus holiday notice)

I’ve been living in Kamakura for more than 4 years now, but in 2 weeks, I’ll be moving to the Shonandai area of Fujisawa.  It’s not far from where I live now, but it’ll be a lot closer to where I work.  I currently live in company housing, but will be moving to a very nice apartment.  So, for the next 2 or 3 weeks, I’ll be busy packing and cleaning.  Then, at the end of December, I’m going to Canada for a holiday.  I intend to continue posting the Picture of the Week the entire time, though.  If I can, I’ll post more, but I won’t guarantee it.  But keep checking back!  In the new year, I’m going to do some major work on transfering all my photos from my old computer to my current computer.  This means I’ll have easier access to the many hundreds of photos I’ve taken up until the end of last year, and I can finally get some good work done on this blog.  This is only the beginning!

Golden Week and a milestone

Right now, it’s Golden Week in Japan.  This is a series of 4  holidays within one week.  April 29th is Showa Day, established in 2007, after it was Greenery Day.  Before that, it was the Emperor’s (Showa) Birthday until 1988.  May 3rd is Constitution Memorial Day.  May 4th is Greenery Day.  Before 2007, it was an unnamed holiday between 2 official holidays.  May 5th is Children’s Day, or sometimes called Boys’ Day.  Some people get a full week holiday, while others only get the actual holidays as days off.

During my Golden Week so far, I’ve done something quite big.  Yesterday, I walked from my home in Ofuna, Kamakura to the island of Jogashima in Miura City, at the southern tip of the Miura Peninsula.  It was between 30 and 35km, and took 8 hours.  As I was crossing the bridge to the island, I saw the sun setting behind Mt. Fuji.  So, that is my new header.

Also, this blog has had a milestone.  April was the first month in which there have been more than 1000 visits.  Hopefully, it’ll keep growing!

What’s happening?

Sorry I haven’t been posting much lately.  Ever since I got the new computer, I’ve hardly used my old computer.  All of my photos are on the old computer.  I do plan to eventually get them transfered to the new computer, but it’ll take time.  I’m not sure if I’ll get another photo post done before the end of the year.

I’m going to be on holiday from December 20 to January 4.  I’ll be going back t0 Canada for 2 weeks, but I hope to make some blog posts from there.  Maybe some pictures, too.  I’ll be getting an iPhone before I go to Canada, so I’ll probably take pictures from the iPhone and make quick blog posts from it.  I’ll be sure to post a snow picture and a Christmas tree picture.  Are there any requests for other pictures?
