2012 Picture of the Week (52/52) – Commercial

Japan is home to many well-known companies, and is a commercial giant in the world.  Japan is also home to many department stores.  Sogo in Yokohama is one of the largest in the country, as is Takashimaya Times Square in Shinjuku.  The Yokohama store of Takashimaya has 8 floors above ground and 2 underground floors.  It contains many restaurants, a supermarket, and more.  This picture was taken across the street from the store.

Just a little note about the numbering of this post.  Somehow, I managed to get 52 pictures in 51 weeks.  I’m not sure which week I posted 2 pictures.  So, I’ll do a bonus picture next week.

Flashback: Shinjuku in May 2005 – Part 1

On the same day that I visited Ueno, I went to Shinjuku to take in the skyscrapers of the famous business and government centre of Tokyo.  Shinjuku Station is really big.  It’s so easy to get lost in the station if you don’t know where you’re going.  It’s the world’s busiest train station.  There are several areas around Shinjuku Station, including the shopping area east of the station, the skyscraper district west of the station, the large garden/park of Shinjuku Gyoen, and the entertainment and red-light district of Kabukicho.  I’m interested in architecture and buildings, so I went west to Nishi-Shinjuku, the skyscraper district.  I will do this set of pictures in 2 posts.

At this point, I crossed the street over to Shijuku-chuo Park, home to some homeless people.  I will continue the Nishi-Shinjuku tour in part 2.
