One image people have of Japan and Asia is bicycles, lots of them. It is true that there are a lot of bicycles in Japan. However, it’s nothing like the pictures you may see of other Asian countries. Here, a popular kind of bicycle is called the Mamachari. It’s a rather ugly, old-fashioned bicycle that is used more for transportation than for fun. It’s heavy looking, and it has noisy brakes. They look like they’ve come straight out of the 1970s. But everyone uses them. This picture was taken outside a bicycle store, and as you can see, lots of unattractive bicycles.

I still can remember my first Mamachari in Japan fondly. They were like gold back in the day and were often stolen, especially late at night or in the rain. Later moved up to my mountain bike and never looked back since
I’ve never had a mamachari. I don’t know if I ever want one. They’re so cheap looking.
They look cheap? Oh, nothing that a bit of rust won’t improve!
They sure do rust easily, don’t they?
They aren’t too bad and do the job of getting you from A to B. Don’t like the basket on the front too much, but can always use it to carry your bag or shopping
True. But they are merely a form of transportation mainly for housewives.
Mate, in a pinch pretty much anything will do
Including a pink children’s bicycle?
I don’t think I would fit onto one of those, but you know what I mean
Yes, I know
But I have seen big guys ride a children’s bike on TV before!
True, Just saw a guy the other day on TV ride a 10cm bike. Not something you see every day of the week
Unless you watch a lot of circuses. Where is the conversation going?
Pretty much nowhere! Time to move on to the next topic
Agreed. Next picture of the week? I still have to post the shrine pictures.
Looking forward to seeing the shrine pictures.
And it has been posted!
Thanks will check it out
